His skin emits a golden glow as rays of light dance on it’s surface in the summer sun. You continue to watch him as you lay with your head rest upon his lap, his back propped against the trunk of the tree you had previously set the picnic under and his fingers weaving small strands of your hair between them. He looks lost in thought and almost fascinated which causes a small giggle to escape from your lips, diverting his gaze to yours. No matter how many days you had spent together, it always felt like the first as small eruptions of butterflies coarse through your body each time his sparkling eyes look into yours.
"What?" A small amount of amusement clear alongside his raspy accent.
“Oh it’s nothing really. I was just wa-“
“Do you know how beautiful you are?” Hayes interrupts sharply, his eyebrows slightly arched and his lips curved subtly.
Silence follows, his words echoing your mind and a light shade of pink flushing your cheeks.
He breaks the silence a minute later, “how did I manage this?” He questions, bewilderment now evident in your facial expression.
“What I mean is, how have I got you? I don’t deserve you. I don’t deserve you at all. I’m the luckiest guy alive. You’re smart, cute, funny, outgoing… a pain when you want to be,” a smirk spreads across his face, narrowing his sparkling eyes, clearer than the skies above, “but you’re beautiful; inside and out and I can’t believe you’re all mine. Mine to hold. Mine to show off. Mine to… Love.”
Shivers cascade through your body and goosebumps appear almost immediately on the surface of your skin as his fingertips graze over it. He removes fallen strands of hair from your forehead, allowing him to press his soft, plump lips against your temple.
"I love you beautiful."
